A study in China found that school-age children exposed to secondhand smoke had increased cough and decreased lung function compared with children not exposed to secondhand smoke (He et al., 2011), and a study from Finland found that children of mothers who smoked combustible tobacco cigarettes during pregnancy were more likely to have increased airway resistance than children of mothers who did not smoke (Kalliola et al., 2013)
